The Phoenix Zoo is home to over 1200 animals from more than 200 species from the Arizona desert to the tropics of Columbia and Indonesia.
The zoo participates in numerous local and international efforts on behalf of endangered species like the Mexican Wolf, thick billed parrot, black-footed ferret, Bornean Orangutan, Sumantran tiger and the Asian elephant. These animals are kept in a sanctuary, which is animal centric and at the same time viewer friendly. The sanctuary also hosts animals which are rehabilitating from illness.
The African Savannas and the baboon colony are interesting to watch.
